Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t here yet but the temperatures are definitely rising and that means it’s time for A/C season. Before the summer weather is officially here and you’re running your air conditioner 24/7 to stay comfortable, remember to call your AC maintenance technician to stop by and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to an air conditioning tune-up, there are several other ways you can get your home ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

We don’t mean for you to take you’re A/C system apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your system to remove sticks and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the system and cut back any overgrown bushes or vegetation to make sure your A/C system is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Bryant Heating & Cooling Service Experts will replace your home’s basic air filters when they complete your seasonal tune-up as part of your standard A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also swap out your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s recommended that you do so at least every 30-60 days for optimal performance. If you don’t change your air filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of the people living in your home and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard cooling equipment service. Note that a clogged filter could possibly damage your AC equipment.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. Hanging drapes or curtains may also help keep your furniture and floors from fading or enduring sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you forgot to check the batteries in your smoke and CO detectors over daylight savings, now is the time. Don’t forget to also check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling your HVAC company because your A/C isn’t running and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider purchasing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature while you’re away and save money on your energy bills.

A yearly air conditioner tune-up service could make your A/C unit up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Bryant Heating & Cooling Service Experts today to make sure your air conditioning system is set to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and learn about our spring specials on air conditioning tune-ups.
